Hello! My name is Hannah Calderazzo, and I am a published writer and experienced editor of a variety of works, as well as a lover of Jane Austen and fantasy novels. I am currently working as a Managing Editorial Assistant for Vintage Books at the multinational publishing company Penguin Random House (PRH). Some of my primary tasks include processing backlist text and cover changes/corrections (around 1,000 and counting!); collaborating with my team and other departments to add new introductions and other material to backlist titles; and creating bound galley materials for both physical books and eGalleys. This opportunity with PRH arose after interning with Vintage Books and Anchor Books in Fall 2022. During my Managing Editorial internship, I copyedited and proofread mechs, newsletters, and other materials for the imprint; managed metadata into SAP; and personally updated over thirty John Grisham novels to prepare them for reprinting. I was then asked to temp in the department in January 2023, and accepted a full-time position in February 2023.
I am also a freelance copyeditor and proofreader for Scholastic and Random House Children’s Books. As a freelancer for both houses, I have a thorough command of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage, having worked on almost fifty various titles for Scholastic and multiple projects for RHCB as part of its freelance roster. These projects have ranged from picture books to nonfiction and fiction titles for middle-grade readers, YA novels, and graphic novels from multiple series in Scholastic’s Graphix imprint, such as City of Dragons and I Survived. Some titles I have had the pleasure of working on include The Revenge Game by Jordyn Taylor, Haunted Holiday by Kiersten White, Love Requires Chocolate by Ravynn K. Stringfield, Not Another Banned Book by Dana Alison Levy, ·The Immortal Games by Annaliese Avery, Deer Run Home by Ann Clare LeZotte, and WWII Close Up: They Saved the Stallions by Deborah Hopkinson.
I also interned in the Acquisitions department at the University Press of Florida for several months, where I first learned about the publishing process and performed a myriad of other duties, such as reviewing manuscripts and writing reader reports, drafting contracts, and acting as a liaison between the Press and its authors. In addition to my publishing internships, I have taken the course “Copyediting and Proofreading for Books” through the NYU School of Professional Studies, finishing the class with an “A.” I am passionate about writing and working with books, and am seeking to expand my experience in the fields of publishing, creative writing, and other communications. When not enjoying a novel or attempting embroidery, you can find me working on my next project.
